Mold Springs: Features & Usage Guidelines

Overview

Mold springs are specialized springs used in metal molds, mechanical components, and plastic steel molds. They are characterized by high load capacity, short stroke, durability, and resistance to breakage. Mold springs are typically made from special alloy steel and undergo compression treatment to ensure dimensional stability during use.

Key Features & Usage Considerations

Selection & Design: Choosing the right spring is crucial in mold design. The spring type and quantity should be determined before mold construction.

Preloading: When installing mold springs, it is recommended to preload by 5% to prevent uneven stress caused by sudden load changes, which can extend the spring’s lifespan.

Guide Hole Design: When installing springs in reworked molds, the guide hole depth should be adjusted proportionally to ensure stable installation and even stress distribution. If the spring’s free length exceeds four times its average diameter, compression may cause deformation; guide holes or guide rods can help minimize deformation.

Avoid Modifications: Do not grind the inner or outer diameter or reduce the coil count to fit mold dimensions, as these modifications can weaken the spring and lead to failure.

Simultaneous Replacement: When maintaining molds, all mold springs should be replaced simultaneously to prevent uneven force distribution due to variations in size and length between new and old springs.

Environmental Protection: When used in high-temperature or corrosive environments, protective measures should be applied, and springs should be replaced at scheduled intervals.

Service Life: Working at maximum load reduces the lifespan of mold springs. The number of cycles a spring can endure is directly related to its compression ratio.

Flat Wire Mold Springs excel in high-stress, high-speed vibration, and heat resistance, contributing to compact mold designs and extended service life in metal stamping applications.
